Jos Kuppens

Jos Kuppens (1954) attended the Academy for the Visual Arts in Genk and studied sculpture, ceramics and drawing. Wood was his first love, however, he then began experimenting with bronze, ceramics, glass, marble and Belgian bluestone. Jos Kuppens currently focuses primarily on female figures, shaped out of Belgian marbles, such as black marble, Noir Mazy, etc., yet also works with granite. His sculptures portray the female torso, albeit in a very abstract manner. Yet without fail he is able to depict his subject in a unique way, combining the figurative and the abstract to achieve maximum result. And the result is a relationship between form and composition, contrast and line, which contains tension and harmony. Exhibitions in the Netherlands, Belgium, and the USA.
