Marta Shmatava was born in 1965 in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. Her father Viktor Shmatova is a Belarusian artist, art critic and scientist. At the Belarusian Academy of Fine Arts, Marta received classical education in academic drawing, painting after nature and art history. She works with oil on canvas. She finds inspiration in human beings: man and time, man and nature, man and meditation. She finds it fascinating to discover man's mysterious inner life such as thoughts, fantasies, experiences and feelings, and translate them into her canvases. Marta Shmatava makes extensive use of colour to create harmony, thereby enhancing the impact of her message. This is further emphasised by the positive symbolism in her paintings. As an artist, she therefore has the ability to communicate this through her paintings to current and future generations.
