J.L. Martin, 1955, Netherlands. Studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, specialisation: painting. Louis Martin lives in Belgium, withdrawn in the silence of his studio, where he works on his paintings with faces created without technological aids. He achieves the remoteness he strives for by adding a second dimension. By locally raising the canvas, the person depicted loses his identity and becomes, as it were, a new entity. Statement: I want to create sculptures that radiate timelessness on the one hand and clearly have their roots in the past on the other. Art should add something, make something visible that would otherwise remain hidden. For me, it is an effective way of interpreting the world.
